Compare Bitcoin Against Traditional Cash Savings
Model how a Bitcoin allocation could compound over time compared with cash savings. Adjust your initial investment, monthly contributions, inflation assumptions, and Bitcoin CAGR to see how different scenarios affect long-term purchasing power. Thinking about portfolio size first? Start with the Bitcoin Allocation Explorer. For strategy context beyond the numbers, see Bitcoin accumulation strategies.
Adjust Your Inputs & See The Difference
The Bitcoin path estimates BTC accumulated from your lump sum and monthly buys using the live spot price, then values that stack over time. Cash savings use your yield and inflation inputs. Banner historical CAGRs are USD-denominated reference only: they use a baked-in month-end price series (about ten years, not shown on the page) when anchors fall in range, otherwise live daily history feeds (not a forecast).

How this model works
We convert each contribution to BTC at the modeled BTC price for that month. The lump sum uses the spot at the start; each monthly amount uses the month-end price on a smooth path where price grows at your chosen CAGR (same convention for Bitcoin nominal and real lines on the chart). That smooth path is educational: real Bitcoin markets are volatile, with deep drawdowns possible, so this is not a forecast.
Cash savings compound at your yield rate; real values discount by your inflation rate. The headline purchasing-power comparison uses Bitcoin real vs cash real at the horizon.
Your Bitcoin CAGR assumption is very high. This is illustrative stress testing, not a forecast. Real outcomes can differ sharply, including prolonged drawdowns.

Insights
- Bitcoin overtakes cash savings on a real basis first in year 1.
- You would accumulate about 0.4803 BTC (~48,032,104 sats).
- Projected real purchasing-power ratio (Bitcoin real ÷ cash real) at horizon: about 2.95×.
- About 73.3% of your projected BTC stack came from monthly DCA.

Assumptions behind these figures
- Bitcoin growth
- 20% a yearA smooth path at this rate, chosen for illustration. Real prices are volatile. Not a forecast.
- Cash yield
- 2% a yearBefore inflation. The lump sum compounds yearly at this rate, monthly deposits monthly.
- Inflation
- 3% a yearReal values for both Bitcoin and cash are discounted by this rate.
- Contributions
- MonthlyThe lump sum buys at the starting price; each monthly amount at that month's modelled price.
- Fees and tax
- None modelledNo fees, tax or account rules are deducted.
- Starting price
- $77,833.00A cached market reference. observedAt is when that reference was reported, not a quotation of this moment. It sets the BTC amounts only; the value comparison does not depend on it.
